Global Strategy
Professor

This course is designed to develop world-class, global managers. Many of the most important issues affecting businesses today are global in nature. The first part of the course covers the foundational pillars of global strategy. It begins by asking under what conditions crossing national borders creates value for the firm and where it should locate its foreign activities—the “why” and the “where.” It then consider the crucial “how” questions: whether and how a firm should modify its business model in different countries, and when it makes sense to enter foreign markets alone versus with a local partner. The second part of the course covers the latest developments in global strategy with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship in various parts of the world. It explores innovation clusters, business model innovation in emerging markets, and how new technologies, sustainability concerns, and geopolitical shifts are reshaping global innovation.

Introduction to Management
Recitation Instructor and Teaching Assistant

This course provides a framework for understanding the opportunities and challenges involved in formulating and implementing strategies by taking a "system" view of organizations, which means that we examine multiple aspects of how managers address their environments, strategy, structure, culture, tasks, people, and outputs, and how managerial decisions made in these various domains interrelate. The course helps students to understand and analyze how managers can formulate and implement strategies effectively.

Managing the Enterprise (Global module)
Teaching Assistant

The global module of the course stresses the deep and persistent cross-national differences in economic, political, legal and social institutions that affect the strategy, business model, and performance of firms. The course focuses on the core questions managers need to answer in the process of taking a business abroad. After covering some timeless global strategy issues, it considers some timely global topics: how to operate in emerging markets, how to manage relations with regulators and other non-market stakeholders, and the global ethical responsibilities of multinational firms. The module gives students a toolkit to evaluate opportunities for improving firm performance through internationalization.
